Air Quality & Goal 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy
Goal 7 is in place to ensure access to reliable, affordable and sustainable energy for all. Sustainable energy has strong ties to the reduction of air pollutants.
Burning fossil fuels has caused our current climate crisis, propelling Earth into climate extremes and ecological disasters.
Canada relies on energy to power our transportation, heat our infrastructure and power our plants. The energy we need is largely derived through the combustion of fuels such as gasoline, oil and natural gas. This consumption causes air pollutants such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds, benzene, metals and sulphur dioxide.
Efficient technologies and renewable, low-carbon sources of energy are required to reduce air pollution for human and planetary health.
