Youth Gathering to Discuss Youth Relations with Parks, Canadian Historic Landmarks and Heritage Sites
When: April 4-5, 2009
The RCEN was invited by Parks Canada to select one (1) ENGO youth to participate in a youth gathering that will take place from April 4-5 in Gatineau, QC.
The selected youth delegate was:
- Graeme Bousada, Eco-Action (Mount Allison University), NB
- Alternate: Kari Scott, Windfall Ecology Centre, ON
This meeting, where 20 or so youth between the ages of 18 and 25 participated, focused on discussion of youth's relations with parks, Canadian historic landmarks and Heritage Sites. At the end of this gathering, recommendations werw to be made to Parks Canada and the Canadian Commission to UNESCO on how to best engage youth in these heritage sites.
Almost half of the participants in this gathering had participated in the youth section of the 32nd UNESCO World Heritage Committee. This gathering was in part a follow up meeting for them as well as an occasion to discuss these issues from a Canadian perspective. In this context, the hope was to increase participation from other Canadian organizations.
