ENGO Delegate for the Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity
When: October 18-29, 2010
Through support from Environment Canada, the RCEN selected one ENGO delegate and one alternate to participate in the Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-10) to be held in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, from 18 to 29 October 2010.
Selected ENGO delegates:
- Larry McDermott, Plenty Canada, ON
- Alternate: Leslie Adams, Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources, ON
This meeting will take place during the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB) as declared by the United Nations. Strategic Issues for Evaluating Progress and Supporting Implementation of the Convention will be considered. It is also anticipated that the negotiations on an International Regime on Access and Benefit-sharing will result in the adoption of an instrument on Access and Benefit-Sharing.
The RCEN-selected ENGO delegate will participate in the COP-10 side event co-hosted by the RCEN and Environment Canada entitled “Friends of The CBD: A Multistakeholder Participatory Model” scheduled from 6:15 - 7:45 pm on Tuesday, October 19 and may also be asked to participate in the official Canadian delegation to COP-10. Participation of the ENGO delegate in the official Canadian delegation will be confirmed by the end of September 2010.

At its 10th meeting in Nagoya, Japan, in October 2010, the 193 countries that are Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (including Canada) are due to adopt a revised and updated Strategic Plan for the Convention including new biodiversity target(s) for the post-2010 period. The Parties are also currently negotiating an international agreement on access and benefit sharing that is expected to be adopted at COP-10.
