| Network News January 28th, 2009 Budget 2009 Environmental Highlights: • $2.5 billion over five years for clean energy technologies (with a focus on carbon capture and storage) • $1 billion over five years for a Green Infrastructure Fund, including infrastructure that supports the creation of sustainable energy • $351 million to go to Atomic Energy of Canada Limited on a cash basis in 2009-10 for its operations • $300 million over two years for the ecoENERGY Retrofit program • $81 million over the next two years for program management and additional assessments of federal contaminated sites • $37.6 million in 2009–10 to departments and agencies in support of EAs, regulatory coordination, science, and Aboriginal consultations related to the Mackenzie Gas Project • Pursuit of regulatory efficiencies for projects subject to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (see Call for Participation to join the discussion) To read the details of the 2009 Budget, please visit: www.budget.gc.ca/2009/home-accueil-eng.asp ENGO Input for the 4th National Report for the Convention on Biological Diversity In order for Canada’s 4th National Report for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to reflect the contributions of all relevant sectors of society, Environment Canada has requested that the RCEN conduct a survey to solicit ENGO views with respect to progress, challenges, lessons learned and biodiversity priorities in the post 2010 period. Members currently working on biodiversity-related issues and those with past experience or a marked interest in biodiversity are encouraged to complete this short survey. A summary of the results will feed into Canada’s 4th National CBD Report. Read more… |
