We are only weeks away from the 2011 federal budget and the federal government continues to give billions of dollars in tax breaks to the companies producing oil and gas in Canada. Analysis shows a total of $1.4 billion per year in federal tax breaks alone, with a disproportionate share going to dirty fuels such as the Alberta Tar Sands.

Bill C-469, the Canadian Environmental Bill of Rights. is currently before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development. Unfortunately, this important bill is being stalled in the Committee by some of its members.

Environmental rights are recognized in 170 countries around the world, and are enshrined in legislation in the Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Ontario and Quebec.
